چکیده

Abstract The NEWA ALEX17 experiment was conducted with the objective of characterizing wind conditions upstream Alaiz Test Site for validation flow models. From intensive operational period, a case study has been selected Wakebench benchmark consisting four consecutive days relatively persistent winds from North. is centered around 118-m mast at site and six additional masts located along valley lee side ridge delimiting 8-km long area interest. follow-up GABLS3 diurnal cycle in flat terrain to test mesoscale-to-microscale transient steady-state modeling methodologies assessment stability-dependent bin-averaged conditions. Links between diurnal cycles of wind and temperature in complex topography

Analyzing a 6-km resolution atmospheric simulation of Southern California from 1995 to the present, we characterize climatological diurnal cycles of surface air temperature and winds. We find that these quantities have significant spatial structure due to dynamical links between them. The large daily warming and cooling over land induces expected flows across the coastline and elevation isoline...

Recirculation over complex terrain

This study generated eddy covariance data to investigate atmospheric dynamics leeward of a small, forested hillside in upstate New York. The causes and effects of recirculation eddies were examined to support the larger goal of improving measurement of the exchange of energy, moisture, and trace gases between the terrestrial biosphere and the atmosphere over complex terrain. Sensors operated at...

High Resolution Modelling in Complex Terrain

During the past years the modelling community, both from the application and pure research perspectives, has been facing the challenge of high-resolution modelling in places with complex topography. In February 2012, as a result of the collaborative efforts of BOKU-Met, ARSC, IMG and the enthusiasm of the scientific community, the HiRCoT workshop was held in Vienna. HiRCoT objectives were: 1) T...

Stably stratified canopy flow in complex terrain

Stably stratified canopy flow in complex terrain has been considered a difficult condition for measuring net ecosystem–atmosphere exchanges of carbon, water vapor, and energy. A long-standing advection error in eddy-flux measurements is caused by stably stratified canopy flow. Such a condition with strong thermal gradient and less turbulent air is also difficult for modeling. To understand the ...

Terrain classification in complex 3D outdoor environments

This paper presents two techniques to detect and classify navigable terrain in complex 3D environments. The first method is a low level on-line mechanism aimed at detecting obstacles and holes at a fast frame rate using a time-of-flight camera as the main sensor. The second technique is a high-level off-line classification mechanism that learns traversable regions from larger 3D point clouds ac...
